In 2020, I asked a question on Twitter: “What’s your Myers-Briggs (I’m an INTP)?”
945 responses, including many well known Bitcoiners such as: Robert Breedlove (ENTJ), Cory Klippsten (ENTP), Stephan Livera (ENTJ), Dylan LeClair (INTP), Luke Dash jr (INTP), etc.
The results were fascinating — and wildly divergent from the general population (GenPop).
So in 2025, I ran the survey again. This time with a larger sample, a Google Form with better controls, and an optional question about when each respondent first got into Bitcoin.
The result: 1,165 responses — making this the largest known MBTI study of Bitcoiners ever conducted.
Combined with an old 2013 BitcoinTalk forum poll (n=108) and my 2020 Twitter poll (n=224), we now have 1,497 total data points spanning 12 years.
The data confirms what many of us suspected: Bitcoiners are not normal people. Not even close.

Wait, what is Myers-Briggs?
Myers-Briggs (MBTI) is a personality framework that sorts people into 16 types based on four simple preferences. How you get energy, take in information, make decisions, and approach the world. Combine your four letters and you get your type, like INTJ or ESFP. Learn more and find discover your personality type at 16Personalities.com.
Here are the 16 personality types broken into 4 groups. Roughly 70% of Bitcoiners fall into the Analysts group.

The Big Picture: Bitcoiners vs. Everyone Else
Let’s start with the headline numbers from all 1,497 responses across three surveys.
Read that again. INTJ and INTP alone account for 57% of all Bitcoiners — yet they represent only 5.4% of the general population. That’s a combined 10.6× over-representation.
Meanwhile, ISFJ and ESFJ — together representing over 26% of the general population — account for a combined 0.5% of Bitcoiners.
Bitcoiners are nothing like GenPop. Shocking, I know.
The Signal Is Consistent
One survey could be a fluke. However we now have three surveys, ~1,500 total responses, spanning 12 years… feels like a pattern.
The top types have been remarkably consistent: INTJ and INTP have dominated every single survey. ENTJ has tripled from 2.8% in 2013 to 8.8% in 2025. INFJ has quietly grown from 4.6% to 7.0%.
What is the most represented personality type?
31.5% of Bitcoiners who completed the 2013 survey (n=108) where INTP, making it the (31.5%) #1 Bitcoin personality type at the time.
However the 2025 survey (n=1,165) shows INTJ passing INTP as the #1 personality type.
- INTJ went from 29.6 (2013) to 36% (2025)
- INTP went from 31.5% (2013) to 22% (2025)
Why INTJ?
There’s a reason INTJ is the undisputed king of Bitcoin personality types:
- Strategic, long-term thinking — They naturally plan years or decades ahead.
- Independent-minded — They form conclusions from first principles, not social consensus.
- Systems thinkers — They see interconnected systems to be understood and optimized.
- Contrarian comfort — Not bothered by disagreeing with 99% of people.
- Low emotional reactivity — Price drops from $60k to $15k? An INTJ is running the numbers, not panicking.
INTP is second for similar reasons — deeply analytical, drawn to complex systems, willing to explore unconventional ideas. The difference: INTPs fall down the technical rabbit hole (how does SHA-256 actually work?), while INTJs focus on strategic implications (what does this mean for the global monetary order?).
The Four Dimensions: Where Bitcoiners Really Diverge
MBTI measures personality across four axes. Here’s how those dimensions have held up across 12 years of surveys.
Introversion vs. Extraversion
Bitcoiners: 79% Introverted / 21% Extroverted (Gen pop: ~51% / ~49%)
Not a huge surprise. Bitcoin was born on a cryptography mailing list, not at a cocktail party.
Intuition vs. Sensing — The Big One
Bitcoiners: 90% Intuitive / 10% Sensing (Gen pop: 27% / 73%)
This is the most dramatic divergence. Nine out of ten Bitcoiners are Intuitives in a world where nearly three out of four people are Sensors. Bitcoin was designed to solve problems most people don’t even know exist yet.
Sensing types make up 73% of the population but only 10% of Bitcoiners. Bitcoin’s biggest adoption gap isn’t political. It’s perceptual.
Thinking vs. Feeling
Bitcoiners: 81% Thinking / 19% Feeling (Gen pop: 40% / 60%)
Being an early adopter to Bitcoin required a personal intellectual quest. First you just want to make some money, then all of sudden you’re reading Human Action by mises, hanging out with nerds at a meetup, and studying energy markets. Most “normal people” will just wait until Bitcoin is normalized (and less upside).
That said, the 19% Feelers are interesting… INFJ (7%) and INFP (6.5%) together represent nearly all of them and are likely drawn to Bitcoin’s vision of human flourishing, not its technical merits.
Judging vs. Perceiving
Bitcoiners: 60% Judging / 40% Perceiving (Gen pop: 54% / 46%)
The smallest gap. Bitcoin attracts both planners and explorers, though planners have a slight edge.
The Multiplier Effect
The Two-Letter Combos That Tell the Story
SF types — Sensing + Feeling — represent 43% of the general population but only 1.2% of Bitcoiners. That’s a 36× under-representation. If you’re trying to orange pill your ESFJ mother-in-law, the data suggests you’re fighting uphill.
Any enterprising Bitcoiners want to take a stab? Massive upside in adoption if you crack this code.
How Bitcoin’s Personality Is Changing
The 2025 survey asked respondents when they first got into Bitcoin, giving us a window into how the community’s personality is evolving.
The good news is over time, the personality types are changing, albeit slowly.
Would be fun to map these over a Gartner Hype cycle. Hey Claude…
INFJ is the big story in the adoption era data. These are idealistic, values-driven intuitives. They’re like driven to Bitcoin for the benefits to society. Social justice.
Bitcoin’s Biggest Adoption Gaps
ISFJ (Defender) — 13.8% of gen pop, 0.5% of Bitcoiners. ISFJs trust institutions and value stability. Bitcoin says “don’t trust institutions, verify everything yourself.”
ESFJ (Consul) — 12.3% of gen pop, 0.1% of Bitcoiners. ESFJs care about social harmony and established norms. Buying a volatile internet asset that historically authorities called a scam? Not their idea of responsible behavior.
If Bitcoin reaches true mass adoption, the messaging can’t be “here’s why fiat money is broken.” It needs to be “here’s how this protects your family, your community, and the people you care about.”
Who is creating Bitcoin content targeting these under-represented personality types?
Critiques & Caveats
Selection bias is real. All of these surveys were done online, mostly on Twitter. We’re essentially measuring “Very Online Bitcoiners” — not Coinbase normies holding 0.01 BTC.
MBTI has issues. Test-retest reliability concerns, the Big Five being more empirically validated. But MBTI remains the most widely recognized framework.
Self-selection amplifies the signal. Intuitives and Thinkers are more likely to take surveys.
Some people are likely doubled counted. Since I didn’t collect any personal information, I have no way to ensure no individuals are counted twice. For example, the same person could have submitted their MBTI in 2020 and 2025.
Gender confound. Bitcoin Twitter skews heavily male, and certain MBTI distributions vary by gender. Although to be fair, Bitcoin users in general still skew male.
Despite all this — when a signal is this strong (17× INTJ, 90% Intuitive), and holds across three independent surveys over 12 years, it’s not all noise.

What This Means for the Future
If Bitcoin adoption follows a technology curve, we’re still early-to-mid — dominated by innovators and early adopters who skew toward abstract systems thinking.
The next wave will look different. The 2023+ cohort already shows more Extraverts, more Feelers, and more INFJs.
Is Bitcoin’s personality profile a feature or a bug?
It’s a feature: INTJ/INTP types were exactly who you needed to discover, validate, and build conviction in a new monetary system.
It’s also a challenge: A monetary network that only appeals to 5% of personality types has a ceiling. For Bitcoin to become global money, it needs to be adopted by the 95% who don’t naturally think in abstract systems.
While the data shows each successive cohort is more personality-diverse, we have a long way to go.
Call to action: Create content explaining Bitcoin to the under-represented personality types.
